The Community Industry Forum meeting in February featured presentations from the Town of Port Hedland, Hedland Maritime Initiative, new container shipping business ANL and import and export logistics services business QUBE.
PHIC CEO Kirsty Danby also outlined the development of a plan to promote Port Hedland. With a theme of Positive Port Hedland, its aim is to instil a sense of pride in the town, and project positive images of what Port Hedland has to offer.
ANL Business Development Manager Darryl Evans presented an overview of the company’s new containerised shipping service to and from Singapore, which started in November last year.
The business has already picked up new customers and aims to service the Pilbara direct, offering a service that avoids sending goods to Fremantle and then trucking them north.
Darryl said ANL was encouraged by the positive approach taken from all stakeholders to assist a new business to establish in the town.
QUBE Bulk Logistics Manager James Waltham outlined vast improvements in safety and innovation designed to protect drivers and other road users.
Town of Port Hedland Town Planning and Development Manger Chaz Roberts and Director of Infrastructure Lee Furness provided an overview of the heavy vehicle access strategy, which is being developed to ensure public safety, ease the cost burden of road maintenance on ratepayers, and integrate land use and transport networks.
