The Town of Port Hedland provided another wonderful opportunity to meet with the community and discuss all the great collaboration work at PHIC at the Celebrate Hedland on Friday 2 May.
More than 2,000 people gathered in South Hedland for the dynamic community event that brought the heart of the Pilbara to life. Formerly known as Welcome to Hedland, the event highlighted the region’s unique spirit through live performances, creative showcases, and local business engagement.
At the event PHIC talked about Why Mining Matters and all the things in our lives that need mining. Lots of lucky people took away Minerals Council of Australia “30 Things” books as well as some yummy chocolate turtles.
Ellie was our lucky raffle prize winner, taking home a $500 picnic hamper for being one of many to go onto our newsletter lists.
A massive thanks to the volunteers from our member companies who accompanied PHIC Business and Community Manager Chantel Cullen for the evening.
On Friday 2 May, more than 2,000 people gathered in South Hedland for Celebrate Hedland 2025, a dynamic community event that brought the heart of the Pilbara to life. Formerly known as Welcome to Hedland, the event highlighted the region’s unique spirit through live performances, creative showcases, and local business engagement.
Celebrate Hedland is a cornerstone in the Town’s annual event calendar, reflecting our commitment to enhancing liveability and fostering community connection. By offering diverse and inclusive events throughout the year, we ensure that residents have access to experiences that celebrate local culture and creativity.
Hosted at the South Hedland Town Centre, this year’s celebration was praised for its improved layout, earlier start time, and vibrant atmosphere, offering something for all ages. Attendees explored market stalls, enjoyed youth-led activations, and participated in family-friendly activities throughout the day.
A major highlight was the live Paste-Up activation, where artists transformed public spaces with large-scale, expressive artworks in real time. The Photography Trail invited visitors to discover Hedland through the eyes of photographers, capturing the diverse stories and faces of the community.
Around 70 local young people took part in hands-on workshops led by professional artists, developing skills in visual art, photography, and collaboration. Their work formed part of the on-site exhibitions, showcasing the talent and creativity of Hedland’s youth, fostering pride, belonging, and self-expression.
A big thank you to our major sponsor Horizon Power and to our community, who supported and contributed to the success of this year’s event.
