The preferred tenderer has been chosen for the $10 million, second-stage work on the Spoilbank Marina project.

Stage 2 Package 2a involves breaking ground for the first time within the marina site and is a significant milestone in delivery of the $121.5 million project.

The tender, awarded to MGN Civil Pty Ltd, includes construction of the marina basin footprint, the installation of site perimeter fencing and establishing ground levels.

MGN, which has substantial experience delivering similar projects across Australia, was selected as after a comprehensive tender evaluation process by Pilbara Ports Authority.

The work will result in a significant injection into the Pilbara economy, with commitments from MGN to source 75 per cent of its plant hire requirements from Aboriginal businesses and to purchase almost 80 per cent of goods and services within the region.

Announcing the successful tenderer for Stage 2, Premier Mark McGowan said the work would deliver a substantial boost to local businesses and local workers.

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the marina had been an aspiration of the Port Hedland community for decades and that it would be a welcome amenity to the town.

Tenders for dredging and reclamation, and breakwaters and revetments were called in February.

Tenders for the marine structures will be advertised in early 2021, with landside civil and landscaping work tenders to follow in the second quarter of 2021.

The Port says about 220 jobs will be created during the two-year construction.
